Celebrating its close ties and long standing partnership with Greece and in particular the Heraklion market, TUI held a beautiful ceremony earlier this month to name its new B737-8,

The event was attended, amongst other guests, by the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Kikilias, the HCAA Governor, Mr. Dritsakos, the Head of Region, Mr. Arnaoutakis and Oliver Lackmann, Chief Flight Operations Officer of TUI Airline who as a pilot himself flew the plane out of Heraklion, in one of the ceremonies highlights along with some impressive water fountains during the air. In his address, Mr. Lackmann highlighted the strength of the Heraklion market despite the current global challenges, which prompted TUI to bring forward its first flights to Crete by 4 weeks.

IAHC was represented in the event by Spyros Theiakos, Deputy Chief Commercial Officer who had the opportunity to discuss the latest developments regarding the new airport with TUI’s management and other local stakeholders.

The aircraft’s godmother is the Heraklion-born 32-year-old champion sprinter Irini Vasiliou, starting the era of Heraklion flying with TUI’s wings around the world, ambassador of a modern, vibrant city combining tradition with innovation, history with cutting edge infrastructure, like the new airport in Kastelli will do.
